Civil Engineering

Overview

About the Department

  • Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline deals with the design, execution, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, which includes public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways. Civil Engineering is branched into a number of sub-disciplines.
  • It is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering.
  • The basic needs of a human being such as quality air, potable water and shelter are being provided by a Civil engineer
  • A country’s infrastructure development is in the hands of a civil engineer. In our college, Civil engineering department was established in the year 2009.
  • Civil Engineering program starts with basic principles of maths, physics and chemistry. We have well equipped laboratories to conduct research and consultancy works.
  • The alumni of civil engineering department are playing vital roles as entrepreneurs, construction engineers, contractors and surveyors in the society.

Vision

To create value inculcated Civil Engineers and to promote them in research for current and future challenges.

Mission

  • To provide under-graduate programme in Civil Engineering.
  • To develop research and consultancy for societal needs.
  • To produce moral and value-based students.
  • To provide a platform that enhance students to take competitive exams
  • To interact with industries and meet their needs.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES(PEOs)

  • To prepare students for successful careers in Civil Engineering field that meets the needs of Indian and multinational companies
  • To develop the confidence and ability among students to synthesize data and technical concepts and thereby apply it in real world problems
  • To develop students to use modern techniques, skill and mathematical engineering tools for solving problems in Civil Engineering
  • To provide students with a sound foundation in mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals necessary to formulate, solve and analyse engineering problems and to prepare them for graduate studies
  • To promote students to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary projects and make them engage in life-long learning process throughout their professional life

PROGRAM OUTCOMES POs

  • Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering
  • Graduates will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.
  • Graduate will demonstrate an ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data.
  • Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design a system, component or process as per needs and specifications
  • Graduates will demonstrate an ability to visualize and work on laboratory and multidisciplinary tasks
  • Graduate will demonstrate skills to use modern engineering tools, software and equipment to analyze problems
  • Graduates will demonstrate knowledge of professional and ethical responsibilities
  • Graduate will be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
  • Graduate will show the understanding of impact of engineering solutions on the society and also will be aware of contemporary issues

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES (PSOs)

  1. Have successful technical and professional careers in their chosen fields such as circuit theory, Field theory, control theory and computational platforms.

  2. Engross in life long process of learning to keep themselves abreast of new developments in the field of Electronics and their applications in power engineering.

Laboratories

  • Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory

    • Study about behaviour of fluids is important for a Civil Engineer. The whole world is looking for a change in energy.
    • Hydraulic energy is an efficient alternative which does not pollute the environment.
    • The laboratory is also installed with Centrifugal, Gear, Submersible and Reciprocating pumps.
    • Also students know about the flow measurements such as rota meter, venturimeter and orificemeter.
  • Strength of Materials Laboratory

    • The materials used in construction works should be of good quality. The quality of the materials is tested in Strength of Materials Laboratory.Strength of Materials Laboratory is modernized with latest equipments
    • Strength of Materials Laboratory is modernized with latest equipments
    • Tests on materials including steel, wood and beam are performed
    • All the machineries are maintained properly. Materials test frame “Universal Testing Machine” of capacity 40 tons is a distinctive feature of this laboratory
  • Water and Wastewater analysis Laboratory

    • Water Pollution is one of the major problems, the earth is facing nowadays. The water available on the earth is more polluted on account of anthropogenic reasons
    • The water used for drinking, domestic, industrial and irrigational purposes should have the above said parameters within the limits
    • Water and wastewater analysis laboratory is well equipped with high end spectrophotometer, BOD incubator, COD analyser, flame photometer, dessicator, jar test apparatus
  • Surveying Laboratory

    • For a Civil Engineer, knowledge about landforms is more important. Levelling is essential in the construction of roads, railways and bridges. For preparation of maps, surveying knowledge is essential
    • Excavation works such as cutting and filling can be performed using surveying instruments
    • Theodolite and dumpy level are available in adequate quantity
  • Soil Mechanics Laboratory

    • Soil plays a vital role in construction activities
    • It is critical to quantify the various properties of soil in order to predict its behaviour under different loading conditions for the safe design of soil structures
    • The entire load of the structure is carried to the soil. So the study of behavior of soil is important. In soil mechanics lab, various Engineering properties of soil are studied.
  • Construction Materials and Highway Engineering Laboratory

    • Every quality Engineer has an aim to bring out a quality structure. The quality of a structure depends on the quality of the materials used
    • In construction materials and highway engineering laboratory, tests will be conducted to check the quality of fine aggregates, coarse aggregate, concrete, bricks and blocks.
    • Compression testing machine is available to test the strength of bricks, concrete, cement and wood. Impact testing machine is used to find the toughness of aggregates
